What Is ISI?

ISI stands for "Iron Sharpens Iron," from Proverbs 27:17. We are a group of Christians who have a common interest in video games and we believe that if we are willing and obedient, God will use us to make an impact in the gaming community for His glory. While we all have different backgrounds, belong to different denominations, and come from all over the globe; we come together with one common interest: exalting Christ amongst the online gaming community!



OUR TWO-FOLD VISION:

As Iron Sharpens Iron… we believe in sharpening one another as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, therefore we seek to create an atmosphere where we can help bear one another’s burdens, encourage one another to reach his/her full potential in Christ, and love each other enough to hold them accountable when they start to get off track. As God uses our brothers/sisters to sharpen us, we become strong and sharp ourselves and are better prepared for when God calls us to sharpen others. (2 Timothy 4:2)

As Iron Sharpens Iron… we are commissioned to go out into all the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19a). Therefore we try to reach out to the gaming community and show them the love of Christ right where they are at. While we work hard to maintain family friendly servers that endorse Christian values, we try to practice long-suffering with unbelievers (Psalm 86:15), and work diligently in seeking a balance between the two unto the glory of God.



OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH:

We believe the Bible (both old and new testaments) to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings. We believe what the historic Christian Church has always believed, that the Bible is sufficient for all matters of faith and practice. (Psalm 119:9, 11, 105, 160; Isaiah 55:11; II Timothy 3:16-17)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in God the Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. We believe that God is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign creator of all things. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; I John 5:7; John 14:6-12)

We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth (He is fully God and fully man), in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father. (Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53:1-12; Matthew 1: 20-23; Luke 2:4-14, 21; John 1:1-5; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 4:14-15, 9:28, 10:10, 12, 14, 19)

We believe in the personal, visible (bodily), and pre-millennial second coming of Jesus Christ to this earth. He will return with His saints and set up His kingdom of which there will be no end. (Matthew 16:27; I Timothy 6:14-15; II Timothy 4:1; Titus 2:13; Revelation 20:6)

We believe that all people are by nature, separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal savior and Lord, trusting Him to save them, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, and will spend eternity with the Lord. (John 3:16; Acts 16:31; 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; and II Peter 3:9)

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. (John 14:25-26, 15:26, 16:7-15; Romans 8:14-16; I Corinthians 2:12; and II Corinthians 3:17)

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and unsaved; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are unsaved to the resurrection of damnation. (II Corinthians 5:6-8; II Thessalonians 1:6-9; Revelation 20:11-15)

We believe that in prayer each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 6:9-13; I Thessalonians 5:17; Hebrews 10:19-20)

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. The basis for this unity is the one body, one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all (Ephesians 4:3-6)

OUR HISTORY:

Our story begins back in early 2006, when four Christian men (Commando777, Commando888, Commando999, and Chyno) developed a friendship with another Christian gamer with no arms (2Prosthetics). Becoming regular BF2 buddies, they shared with one another all the struggles that God had seen each of them through and realized that they had another thing in common, a desire to be all that they could be for God!


Commando777 recalls:

We were doing our usual Friday night thing of getting all setup on 3 way calling to each other and playing Battlefield 2. One night while we were playing on the Men Of God server (one of the few Christian servers we would play) another player with the name 2prosthetics joined our squad. I was cruising around in a tank with 2pro up in the gunner position. One time when we spawned back in he ended up in the drivers spot with me in the gunner spot, I didn’t think anything of it till he says over squad speak “do you mind driving, it is easier for a guy with no arms to work the gunner spot.” So I thought, “hmmm that explains the game name of ‘2 prosthetics’” and we went about having a good time and squading up with him each round.


From a weekly meeting of just a few friends, ISI began as any other gaming clan begins, with some differences. All other Christian clans were made up of fellow Christians who enjoyed computer gaming and provided a safe and friendly gaming experience to everyone. Most secular servers did nothing to control harsh language, bad sportsmanship and all around poor game play on their servers, but ISI took a slightly different approach in its formation. We wanted to reach out to non-Christians in fellowship and fellowship amongst them, while maintaining a clean safe environment for all to enjoy. Not only did ISI start out as a group of friends, but the foundations for outreach were set. These friends and brothers in Christ began seeking out a name to best describe our purpose and God confirmed it in their hearts, [ISI] – Iron Sharpens Iron Christian Clan which is based off of the verse:


“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

Beginning with one BF2 server, ISI set out to combine the spirit of Christian fellowship and enjoyment of computer gaming. With the help of fellow Christian clans, MoG (Men of God) and CGO (Christian Gamers Online) the ISI server began to be seeded, at first by Christians, but as time passed we started getting more and more non-Christians as well. Most loved the safe environment and game play, not only for themselves but for their kids as well. We did have problems with people who just wanted to be troublemakers and mock what we were doing, but we stuck to our goal of loving gamers into the kingdom.

Over the next few years, God put His SUPER on our NATURAL and ISI started growing exponentially. Change is hard and there were definitely some stumbling blocks along the way as we tried to figure out just what God wanted ISI to be, but as time went on it became apparent that we were to walk by faith and be whatever, for whomever, whenever God opened each door. Today ISI maintains an average of three game servers, a fifty slot Ventrilo (VoiP) server (where we fellowship, have Prayer Group, and at least one Bible Study each week), and now has over 500 members all at different stages in their walks with Christ and it has been such a blessing to sharpen them and be sharpened by them for whatever season God has called each of them here!
